ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

Getting children to and from school safely and in a timely manner is of utmost importance to school personnel as well as parents. This daily task can only be accomplished with strict adherence to the following procedures. Your full cooperation with our procedures is important for the safety of all students as well as to set a good example.

  • ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

    • School starts promptly at 9:00 a.m.

    • Students may arrive at 8:45 a.m. (no adult supervision prior to this time).

    • First bell rings at 8:45 a.m., students enter classrooms and prepare to start their day

    • Students eating breakfast must report to the cafeteria at 8:45 but before 9:15 a.m.

    • Please do not leave your child on school grounds before school hours without adult supervision. This is a major safety concern.

    • Tardy students: Starting the school day on time is very important for students and staff. Students should be in place to begin the day at 9 a.m. Please make every effort to get your child here on time each day

  • DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:

    • Dismissal begins promptly at 3:20p.m. and we are asking all parents to refrain from picking your child up early. From 3:00 – 3:15p.m. students are engaged in DEAR. At 3:00 p.m. no changes in dismissal will be permitted from the office for early pick-ups, without written notice or call to the office earlier in the day. This is a very stressful time of the day for all students and staff and to ensure the safety and well-being of students. These interruptions and last minute changes in plans are highly discouraged. • Please complete your child’s Arrival/Dismissal form and Emergency form and return to classroom teacher.

CAR RIDERS and WALKERS:

  • Students are dismissed at 3:20 p.m. to the BACK of the school.

  • ONLY bus riders dismiss from the front of the school.

  • Parents wait for students in the back of the school (see video here). All students are escorted outside with teachers to designated areas.

  • Drivers in cars must display their car rider tag with the student’s name and teacher’s name clearly written.

  • Staff members will be supervising students and/or will be directing traffic during dismissal time.

  • For the safety of all children, students will not be dismissed to persons who don’t have a car rider tag displayed.

  • Older siblings will wait with younger siblings

  • K-1-2 will use the inner car loop

  • 3-5 will use the outer car loop

  • Please REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE during arrival and dismissal times- Children will come to you.

BUS RIDERS: These students are dismissed to the cafeteria/gym to wait for their assigned bus to arrive. Students who live beyond one mile are transported to and from school by bus.

The following rules apply to all bus riders:

  1. Be at bus stop on time, buses cannot wait.

  2. Enter bus from single file line without pushing or shoving.

  3. School and/or Driver has the right to assign seating.

  4. Good conduct is expected at all times on the bus

  5. Remain seated while bus is in motion.

  6. No eating or drinking is allowed.

  7. Obey the driver and/or monitor at all times.

  8. Children may only ride the bus to which they are assigned and unregistered children are not eligible to ride.

  9. Students who abuse the privilege of riding the bus by engaging in misconduct may be suspended from riding the bus. If such action is deemed necessary, parents will be notified and will be responsible for providing transportation during the suspension.

LATE PICK UPS: It is very important that you have a backup plan for pickup of your child in case you have an emergency situation. If you find you are unable to be here on time, you should put your plan in motion and call us to notify your child (203-977-4583). If your situation is a true emergency, and your back up plan falls through, we will keep your child for as long as the office is open. (4:00 p.m.) If we do not receive a phone call regarding a late pickup, every effort will be made to reach a parent or person responsible for picking up the child. (please provide multiple numbers of contact in the event of an emergency)
